PANIC IS SWEEPING the chancelleries of Europe as the movers and shakers throughout the Continent scurry around trying to derail the new detente between Russia and the United States which they fear can only be built at their expense. Meanwhile the Trump team has made it clear that they expect the Ukrainians to pay for their past and future protection by giving the Americans exclusive rights to exploit Ukraine’s priceless rare earths and other mineral deposits after the end of the fighting.

All in the Air

THANKS to the efforts of the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) workers have secured a worthwhile legal victory against blacklisting. The Court of Appeal has ruled that the practice of bargain-basement Ryanair of putting pilots who exercised their legal right to strike in 2019 on a blacklist in order to withdraw their travel benefits constituted a breach of the Blacklisting Regulations.

Between a rock and a hard place

KEIR STARMER’S off to Washington next week to win support for a European plan to send 30,000 British and European Union troops to Ukraine as “peacekeepers” if and when a truce is agreed to end the Ukraine war. Though this force would allegedly be there to guarantee Ukraine’s independence its real role would be to preserve the British and European Union’s economic interests in a post-war Ukraine that Donald Trump clearly sees as no more than an American protectorate.
